May is for Mothers

Human trafficking is a heartbreaking reality that targets some of the most vulnerable people in our communities, and Mothers are often among its victims. At Engedi Refuge, we have found that more than half of the women we’ve served since our inception are mothers. Human traffickers will prey on these women specifically because they are Moms, manipulating their deep desire to care for their children and using threats against their kids as a powerful tool to coerce and control them.

For some survivors who are Mothers, the promise of work, housing, or a better life for their children is used as bait, drawing them into exploitative situations when their resources are scarce, social support is lacking, or economic hardship looms. The harm and trauma that results from sex trafficking is profound. It impacts not only the women themselves, but it also creates a ripple effect that can cause lasting harm and instability for their children.

Supporting Mothers who have fled a life of human trafficking means offering them a chance to heal, rebuild, and reclaim a safe, hopeful future for themselves and their children. At Engedi Refuge, we believe every survivor deserves a safe place and the opportunity for a fresh start.

That’s why this month we’re running our May is for Mothers campaign. It is a special fundraising effort dedicated to honoring and empowering survivor Moms. Throughout the month of May, we invite you to join us in making a real difference in the lives of Mothers striving to create a happy and healthy future. You can help by donating to our campaign. Together, we can help more survivor Moms reconnect with their children and create brighter tomorrows.
