A Day to Take a Stand Against Trafficking

Every year on July 30th, the world comes together to observe World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, a day dedicated to raising awareness about the pressing issue of human trafficking and mobilizing efforts to end this crime. Among the many victims of trafficking, women often bear the brunt of exploitation, subjected to horrors that rob them of their dignity, autonomy, and basic human rights.

Women and girls are disproportionately targeted by traffickers, accounting for 71% of all human trafficking victims. Many are lured with false promises of employment, education, or better living conditions, only to find themselves trapped in situations of violence, abuse, and exploitation. The trauma inflicted on women is immeasurable, leaving deep scars that affect their physical, emotional, and psychological well-being.

World Day Against Trafficking in Persons is an opportunity to reflect on the urgent need for more action to help provide shelter and restoration for abused women. It highlights the importance of identifying and supporting survivors, prosecuting traffickers, and preventing future exploitation. For women, this day is especially significant because it shines a light on gendered vulnerabilities that perpetuate commercial sexual exploitation. Poverty, lack of education, gender inequality, and domestic violence often leave women more susceptible to traffickers' manipulation.

By providing safe housing, education, economic opportunities, addiction recovery, and spiritual guidance, Engedi Refuge is providing hope and healing for women who have experienced this horrific abuse.

Each individual has the power to help make a difference in combating trafficking. This World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, you can help support Engedi’s work with survivors by making a gift in honor of this day in any amount. Your contribution will help the women at Engedi Refuge who have endured exploitation. It will drive meaningful change.
