Empowering Mothers after Trafficking

Human trafficking is a devastating crime that preys on the vulnerable, and Mothers are often among its most affected victims. In fact, 52% of the women Engedi Refuge has served from inception through 2025 are Mothers. Many women are targeted precisely because they are Moms, and traffickers exploit their desire to provide for their children and use threats against their children as a means of control. Facing limited resources, social isolation, or economic hardship, traffickers can coerce Mothers into exploitative situations under the false promise of work, housing, or a better life for their children.

The trauma inflicted by human trafficking is profound. Not only does it directly harm survivors who are Mothers, but it can also create ripple effects, causing trauma and instability for their children. Supporting Mothers who have survived trafficking means giving them a chance to heal, rebuild, and reclaim a safe and hopeful future for themselves and their children.

Engedi Refuge believes that every Mother deserves a safe place and the opportunity for a fresh start. That’s why this spring, we are launching May is for Mothers, a new fundraising campaign to honor Mothers. This May, we will invite you to join us in making a tangible difference in the lives of Mothers who are rebuilding and reclaiming their futures. Not just for themselves but for their children as well, as we work to help Mothers reconnect with their children. Keep an eye on your mailbox for our upcoming May is for Mothers campaign!
